Art Education
Art education is about providing students the tools to see and render the world realistically, afterwards it should allow for the freedom to imagine and create their ideal world, and finally it should give students the autonomy to flourish in that world.
My Pedagogy
A key part of art is its creation of space: space to think, question, correct, and more. We must create this space for whatever action is necessary in our classrooms to allow us to be increasingly flexible. Flexibility and space help account for a diverse student body. We must understand that each student is individual and cannot be put into a group or category based on our perception of their reality.
The environment must be inclusive and conducive to critical dialogue. Students should feel welcome to speak freely and question without fear of being judged. This can be facilitated through consistent meaningful conversation regarding topics relevant to the students themselves.
We should create a space that cherishes work. No matter how the students view their projects, we must give helpful and inspiring feedback to push students to continue to create. Our job cannot end when the student leaves at the end of the year.
